Tesla Pays Debt on His Tower

July 26th, 1907

Settles Judgment Against Structure for Communication to Mars.

New York, July 25. — Nikola Tesla, the electrical expert, who hopes to hold communications with the dwellers in Mars, has settled the debt of $1,108 on the big steel tower that was to have been put under the sheriff's hammer in Suffolk County, L. I., next Monday.

After Tesla acquired some 200 acres of land at Wardenclyffe, L. I., he spent thousands of dollars in erecting the tower and other buildings. The foundation of the tower is said to extend, well-like, to a depth of nearly 300 feet. It is through electrical vibrations from this tower that Nikola Tesla believes he can send messages to Mars.

He owed Dr. James S. Warden, the founder of Wardenclyffe, $1,100. Dr. Warden sued, got judgment, and placed the judgment in the hands of Sheriff Wells for collection. Tesla paid the money and the sale is off.
