Tesla Dreaming Again
Nikola Tesla is dreaming again. From certain disturbances that have a peculiar effect upon his electrical instruments he jumps to the conclusion that as they cannot be caused by the sun, moon, or earth, therefore they must be caused by some one or more of the planets. He does not take much stock in the theory that the Martians are signaling this earth with flashlights since it would require a reflector a mile square to accomplish it. As such a reflector cannot be manufactured on this earth he is quite certain there is no factory in Mars able to turn out such a. colossal flasher.
Mr. Tesla inclines to the opinion that not Mars but Venus is trying to attract the attention of the dwellers on this earth, which is quite in keeping with her reputation, attracting attention being her strong point. But how does Mr. Tesla know she is signaling any one here? Considering the proclivity of the sex for shoulder straps and cockades, is it not more likely that she is having a flirtation with Mars? Mr. Tesla is also confident that he can disturb Venus, even as his electrical instruments have been disturbed, and notify her that "Barkis is willin'." This would be a reversal of the order of things, Venus from time immemorial having monopolized the right of making disturbances.
Mr. Tesla concludes his interview: "I am certain that some planet is knocking at our door." It is not the first time the wizard of electricity has heard things knocking at the door. It is a continuous rat-a-ta, but curiously enough no one ever answers the knock. It will be an agree able surprise when Mr. Tesla opens the door and finds out who it is that is knocking and let the stranger in. He says: "My dearest wish is that I may be the one to say to the new century that at its dawn I was the being chosen to speak the word which means so much to science and even so much to the great brotherhood of man." Mr. Tesla will be much more likely to speak the word when he quits dreaming about Venus and comes down to something practical on this earth.
