Shoreham, L. I.. March 25 — The Nikola Tesla property, the site of the tower which has been the landmark for over a decade on the North Side, has been sold to Lester S. Holmes, an attorney of Manhattan. The property comprises 176 acres of land immediately adjoining the railroad station, a brick building, formerly used by Tesla as a laboratory, and the 150. foot tower. The price paid has not been made public. The property was carried on the tax books of Brookhaven town at an assessed valuation of $15,000. Correction for equalization would undoubtedly bring the value of the property over $25,000.
About fifteen was then years ago Nikola Tesla established the plant at what known as Wardenclyffe. Here he, carried on experiments for the wireless transmission of power with currents of the magnitude of lightning, and it was from this plant that he was at one time incorrectly accredited with making efforts to communicate with the planet Mark The same property figured in the news a few years ago when some difficulties arose over taxes.
Attorney Holmes, the purchaser of the property, stated at his office in Manhattan, yesterday, that he had no intention of using the property an electrical experimental station, but had purchased it merely as a business proposition. He stated that he had no special plans at the present time for the use of the property.
That the laboratory and tower wit no longer be used as an experimental station is further indicated by the fact that the machinery and electrical apparatus in the laboratory building, as well as its other furnishings, have been removed and the place closed.
