The Photo of Which I Am Most Proud
Harry Goldman is shown holding a Tesla-type bulb that was demonstrated by Dr. Samuel G. Hibben at the Nikola Tesla 100th birthday anniversary program held in Chicago on October 1, 1956. The event consisted of a joint program by the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (now I.E.E.E) and the Tesla Society under the direction of Leland I. Anderson. Richard J. Daley, Mayor of the City of Chicago, declared the October date as Nikola Tesla Day.
Two of the featured speakers, Elmer Gertz and W.W. Wilhelm, presented extremely interesting anecdotes related to their association with Nikola Tesla. The meeting included an exhibit of Tesla related items some of which were two early Westinghouse “Tesla” motors, and AGREEMENT dated August 2, 1899 between Nikola Tesla & George Westinghouse, a MEMORANDUM OF THE PROPOSED AGREEMENT between the Tesla Electric Company and the Westinghouse Electric Company, a sculpture bust by Stevan Segvich showing Tesla holding a book and three enlarged photos of Tesla and his inventions.
Also included in the exhibit was a 1 1/2% scale model of the Tesla Long Island Tower and an enlarged reproduction of the Nikola Tesla picture narrative which appeared in the July, 1956 issue of Popular Science magazine, (photo courtesy of Leland I. Anderson)
